May be you did not remove the previous driver from
the /lib/modules/2.6.../misc/.

Ooops... Sorry! But now I did it:rm  /lib/modules/2.6.24-19-generic/misc/*
Then changed to the new gspca directory and did it again:

make install

Then connected the camera. Now I can get is:

[ 8678.977928] usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6
[ 8679.044514] usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

No more messages and no /dev/video0...
