      I can think of at least two suggestions:

      1. If all you need to show is a portion of the screen, use an
         image editing program to crop the unneeded portion(s) before
         posting.

      2. If you do need to show the entire screen, some image editing
         programs (e.g., the GIMP) can "scale" images to different
         sizes.  In the case of your 1440x1024 screen, it could be
         scaled to 1080x768 or to 720x512, just to give a couple of
         examples.
