the (common language) british version means "complete twit, nutter, nutcase"
I presume our (very important) scientist lives in the NY area, where
this term IS derogatory (according the Urban Dictionary)
<http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nog>
QUOTE
1. Nog
1) a derogative term for an African American, originating in Schenectady
NY. Short for "Nig nog".
UNQUOTE
but the Urban Dictionary also produces this entry:
<http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nig-nog>
QUOTE
4. nig-nog
This phrase has absolutely _no_ racial dimension, despite appearances.
It is a Northern British (e.g. Yorkshire) term referring to a silly
person. It does not derive from nigger and should not be considered
racist at all.
Tha cawn't even spell thi own name -th'art a bluddy nig-nog
UNQUOTE
some scientists may be *clever*, but not all scientists are *intelligent*
