I know for a fact (*) that a German publisher is looking for writers on Free/Open Source topics like a needle in the haystack. One of the journalists at last years Akademy also told his audience that Linux magazines are not getting enough articles either, despite obviously compensating authors. So it seems that there are neither enough people interested in working on the free (as in both meanings) documentation nor enough professional writers to fill the needs of various publishers.
