Strange, I would have implemented the opposite behavior!
I have photos that change every 10s or so (I think it is the default),
but every now and then there's one that grabs my attention and I would
like to stop there, resize the plasmoid, and maybe get the path name of
the file to know where the photo was taken...). 
Another possible addition to your patch ?
